The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video soon, and audience theories has been rampant.
Season 1 presents a large cast of characters living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for the new season differ greatly, but certain threads emerge over and over: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner commented recently. "However I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're waiting for unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a couple people create a prediction grid about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
